THE castle at Witton-le-Wear is only just visible from the A68, tucked away among the trees in a vast 330 acres of woodland and immaculately maintained grassland.

From the road it is impossible to tell what lies beneath the canopy of the trees, or what can be found beyond them. One mans vision of a luxury holiday village in the castle grounds is being realised, and there is a tangible buzz around the place now an excitement you cant help but notice.

The purchase of the Witton Castle Estate two years ago was only the beginning, and the change in such a short period is phenomenal.

On arrival at the park you will immediately notice the Castle View area has been cleared, redeveloped and is unrecognisable from its former self.

This new luxury development offers state-of-the-art services and magnificent views of the castle. Every pitch has a 14ft-wide concrete base (20ft for lodges), its own block-paved path, patio and driveway and piped gas, as well as all the usual features you would expect.

With Castle View now finished and virtually full, the new Castle Wood development of luxury holiday homes and lodges was brought forward and is already taking shape. This phase should be completed in six to eight weeks.

Many pitches have already been sold from plan, but there is still a fantastic choice available. The Castle Wood development combines the natural character of the area with the absolute best in terms of quality, but the owners operate a very straightforward system of pitch choice.

Site fees do not vary, regardless of which 14ft-wide luxury pitch you choose and plots are reserved on a simple, first-come first-served basis. There are plans for the castle itself, which is 600 years old this year, and the grounds of the estate are being improved daily.

Witton Castle Country Park has been truly reborn. The estates potential is now being utilised and the ability to offer so much more than just another caravan park will surely lead to its emergence as the best in the region.

On-site facilities include expansive recreational areas, 21 acres of prime and well-stocked fishing lakes, an adventure playground, shop, nature trails by David Bellamy, and a castle hosting two bars, a restaurant and a childrens room.

For the more active, there are several cycling routes and walks even a paintball venue hidden within the estate. To give you an idea of the open space on offer, the estate occupies 338 acres, there are less than 300 holiday homes, and the vast majority of the estate cannot be developed.

With holiday homes starting at just s10,995, Witton Castle is a must-see for any discerning holiday home or lodge owner. Before you buy a holiday home in County Durham at any other location, in order to make an informed choice you need to see Witton Castle for yourself.
