Great North Run 2009: Recovery at the NIHP
Oct 3 2009 by Jack Walton
The Great North Run 2009 was a huge success. Once again competitors of all ages and abilities took part in the half marathon to raise money for charity or for a personal challenge. What I did find surprising was that out of 54,000 runners only 39,000 made it to the finish. It is a tough race and the weather made it difficult, but what can we do ensure we prepare efficiently and recover well? At the Northern Integrative Health Practice (NIHP) we have the facilities and expertise to support your health and performance for the demands of training and competition.

GNR Injury Treatment and Recovery
How is your recovery going so far? Did you suffer any sort of injury on the day, or has it been difficult getting back into any sort of routine? For many competitors, the 13.1 miles will have been one of the body’s greatest challenges yet. Therefore the body needs to be guided through a recovery process. Maybe you have another race coming up and you want to reach your peak again. If we are to enjoy the next challenge we must look after ourselves, whether that is getting enough rest, treating an injury, changing nutrition, or strengthening the weak links.
As part of our package, you could work with our Physiotherapist to manage any existing or potential injuries, then progress to a running-specific conditioning program and even start to eat foods that are right for your biochemical individuality.
Get in contact with us today at the NIHP (www.healthnorth.co.uk, 0191 3980000) to book your consultation and take advantage of discounted rates.
