IF you are getting married this year and are looking for a unique bridal gown, then head to House of Mooshki. LIZ LAMB looks at what’s on offer.
PICKING the perfect bridal gown is one of the most important decisions you can make. With all eyes upon you on your wedding day, you are the star of the show and a knockout dress is essential.
Many brides head to the high street for off-the-peg frocks or go to bridal boutiques where it can take six months for your dress to be created and altered before the big day.
For those brides-to-be who want something unique, or who are getting married in a short space of time, it can prove difficult to find the perfect gown.
That’s where Sunderland-based bridal firm House of Mooshki comes in.
Owned by businesswomen Vikki McCarthy, 41, the firm offers couture dresses at high-street prices and gives clients the choice of every style of wedding dress, from traditional to contemporary and vintage, right through to gothic. The dresses are designed and created by Olivia Wright, who has a background in fashion and design at Instituto Marangoni, the Italian fashion and design school in London.
Vikki says: “We offer couture dresses at affordable prices.
“We can turn a dress around in a matter of weeks, not months, and we can give a bride exactly what she wants.
“We have had quite a few girls coming to us in tears because they are so overwhelmed by buying the dress, they feel pressurised into buying months in advance.
“They end up spending a lot of money just so they have a dress on the day.
“We help with the design of the dress. I am the Gok Wan of the company and talk through every element of the dress with the bride and we decide what will suit her figure, what suits her skin tone, rather than just shoving them in a white dress.
“Olivia is very talented and can take an idea that a bride has in her head and create the dress.
“We’ve had girls coming in who want to be married in sage green. We tease out the design they have in their heads and create a design.
“A lot of girls are wanting vintage dresses and 50s-style dresses are very popular at the minute.
“We get a lot of brides coming in who are losing weight before the wedding so we leave it till two months before the wedding before creating the dress as their figure will have changed.
“We get a lot of last-minute brides as we can turn a dress around in eight weeks. We are filling a gap in the market.”
