All things vintage

VINTAGE clothes are more popular than ever thanks to celebrity fans and shoppers wanting to be unique as well as ethical. LIZ LAMB delves into the dressing-up box to don some finds from yesteryear.

“The perception of vintage was that it was worn by older ladies or students but now the image has changed.

“Lots of celebrities wear vintage and it’s great because you are almost guaranteed not to have the same outfit on as everyone else.

“You are recycling clothes too, so there is the ethical side.

“Vintage is easy to dress on women with curves, which is why a lot of women are turning to vintage, and we like using real women in shoots rather than models.

“The attention to detail and quality of fabrics is often a lot better than you would find in fast-fashion shops today.

“Vintage is fun as well. It’s like having a big great dressing-up box.”

The Journal challenged Elizabeth to come up with some wearable vintage looks.

She said: “Bowler Hat Vintage is all about mixing vintage with whatever you have in your wardrobe – whether it’s a great pair of jeans or a lovely dress – which you can then team with a timeless old jacket.

“As well as selling vintage clothes I am hoping to offer vintage parties, portrait parties and vintage swap-shops in the near future.”
