Style online for under £50

AN up-and-coming online fashion store started by a North East entrepreneur has stylish finds for under £50. CATHARINE HEWITSON finds out more.
WHETHER you’re after a dress for a night on the tiles or looking for something more comfy and casual, internet-based Frock ’n’ Roll can cater to your needs.
The online boutique sells women’s fashion clothing and beauty accessories, as well as a selection of vintage items sourced from second-hand shops across the North East.
Behind the online fashion emporium is Amy Slavin, originally from Morpeth, who hand-picks all of the garments with the aim of keeping everything under £50.
Before establishing her company, the 27-year-old worked as a freelance make-up artist and beauty therapist but didn’t feel fulfilled on her career path.
She says: “I didn’t have the enthusiasm to continue in that line of work”. Her CV also included experience in management and book-keeping and with a little help from Business Link she set up Frock ’n’ Roll in March 2009.
She explains: “For a while now I have wanted to have my own business. My family is quite business-oriented and I wanted to carry that on.”
Her passion is shopping so it was only natural to set up a fashion business.
Frock ’n’ Roll is run from a room converted to an office at Amy’s home in Ellington, Northumberland, where she lives with husband Iain, two cats and a puppy.
Amy says: “Online shopping is becoming more and more popular now; in fact a lot of people say it’s the best way to shop.”
