Catwalk dream for flamboyant Emma

Newcastle fashion designer Emma Bell

FLAMBOYANT fashion designer Emma Bell will be showcasing her colourful designs at Vienna Fashion Week.

Emma, 26, from Kingston Park, Newcastle, was offered the dream opportunity to send her clothes down the catwalk after she awarded an artist in residence programme based in the Museums Quarter in Vienna.

The quarter, based in the heart of the Austrian capital, is a cultural hub of new and historic buildings where artists and designers work and display their designs and includes museums and a cultural centre.

Emma flew to Vienna last week and has been hard at work on her spring/summer 2010 collection which will see some of her creations on show at Vienna Fashion Week which runs from September 24 to 27.

Emma, who has also designed her first handbag collection, said: “It’s really exciting.

“I arrived here last week after winning a place on the artists in residence programme and I am working in a studio in the museums quarter.

“It’s a huge complex of artists studios, boutiques and galleries.

“Usually the programme is for artists and you don’t usually have fashion designers doing the programme but I thought it would be a great opportunity for me and thought why not? So I approached them with a proposal and said I would love to be inspired by the city.

“There’s a lot of creative people here and it’s a fantastic chance to work with them. They have all been very supportive. They are now supporting me in the creation of my S/S 2010 collection and have invited me to show my work at Vienna Fashion Week which will be a preview of about 12 designs.
