Mix glamour with the great outdoors and try a spot of ‘glamping’. That’s glamorous camping to me and you. Francesca Craggs offers some inspiration.
The trend for ‘staycations’ is growing , with families choosing to holiday here in the UK rather than abroad.
The effects of the recession, coupled with the recent spate of hot weather, has seen campsites reporting record bookings. According to the Camping & Caravanning club, bookings are up 27% on last year.
Though gone are days of billy cans, campfires and hiking boots. A new more sophisticated style of camping has emerged – ‘glamping.’ Think Champagne, hot-tubs, pretty pop-up tents, and chimineas. And definitely no stiff necks to boot.
Or why even bother with a tent at all? At Pot-A-Doodle Doo in Scremerston, Northumberland, you can sleep beneath the stars in the lap of luxury. Their wooden wigwams have electricity and there’s even a bistro and BBQ hut on site. For an even more luxurious stay, opt for a yurt, complete with wooden floors, futons and candlelight.
An its not just the stylish surroundings that epitomize the concept of glamping. Glampers dress to impress. Smart shorts are a fashion staple for summer 2009, and a great starting point. A floral maxi dress is also a must, and can be dressed up or down
Taking the great British weather into consideration, layering is crucial. Start with a stylish vest, add a cute cardigan, and ensure a cosy pashmina at close hand for when the temperature drops.
Don’t forget the obligatory Hunter wellies.
