Soothing care revives face and the spirits

Ulrika Einström tries out a facial at The Locker Room.

CONSIDERING the constant stress our skin is exposed to, even during the summer, I happily agreed to be sent off to The Locker Room to have my complexion taken care of by professionals.

The Locker Room deals with hair, health and beauty treatments to suit the needs of people on the move.

I arrived a few minutes early and the staff really took the time to make me feel welcome.

The Locker Room is a lovely, friendly place where they obviously care about their customers. My beauty therapist Clare was no exception.

It’s been quite some time since my last facial and considering the amount of stress my skin’s been burdened with, I was really looking forward to one.

My appointment, a Dermalogica Facial, which cost £35, was scheduled for noon with a lovely pre-cleanse composed of a moisturising lotion massaged on my face.

This was followed by a cleansing cream and exfoliation. All the oils and creams used were calming and stress releasing as well as being good for my complexion.

A hot towel was used to remove all the creams when they’d fulfilled their deep-cleansing purpose. Lying there and being taken care of in such a professional manner was something I certainly wouldn’t mind having weekly.

After the exfoliation, Clare massaged my face and shoulders as well as the back of my neck. All my tension just disappeared.

Clare then applied a mask and an eye cream and let me lie for 10 minutes, soaking it all in. I nearly fell asleep, so while I got even more comfortable under my towel cover and listened to soothing music, the mask was working my face.

Clare then removed the mask with a hot towel and applied as a final step a moisturiser that would fit my skin type perfectly.

My opinion is that the personnel and their knowledge of the products make The Locker Room one of the best. I really felt taken cared of by people at the peak of their trade.

:: The Locker Room’s most popular treatments are its packages.

For £70 to £100 you can choose a full body experience. There is a mixture of sauna treatments, different kinds of massages and facials.

Two of the most popular ones are Beat the Blues, which costs £95, and Up, Up and Away, at £100. The latter includes a marine sea salt scrub, a dermalogical facial (like the one I had), a Jessica pedicure and manicure as well as eyebrow shaping.

The Locker Room is at Abbey House, 7/9 Bigg Market, Newcastle. Call on (0191) 233-9555.
