So spa, so good

Slaley Hall

THERE is something instantly relaxing about entering the Slaley Hall spa; the gorgeous smells from the treatment rooms hang in the air and they are very inviting.

After signing in, my friend and I were given fluffy bathrobes and changed into our bathers before trying out the pool area.

We started off with a relaxing spell in the sauna before plunging into the warm waters of the whirlpool bath.

Then donning my ear plugs and swimming cap – and looking remarkably like Mrs Shrek – I swam a few lengths.

Leaning back, flicking through magazines on the beds by the pool I felt my stresses bubble away.

Then after I had enjoyed a light lunch, my personal therapist arrived to take me for more pampering in the well-appointed treatment room for a luxurious massage and facial.

The treatment room was spacious and dimly-lit: just lovely. My therapist asked me in detail about my skin type and health care regime in order to pin point any concerns.

I was to undergo an ESPA aromatherapy full body massage which is a relaxing treatment to relieve muscular tension and improve lymphatic drainage.

This was to be followed by an ESPA Aromatherapy one-hour facial.

And so to the hands-on pampering, which started with a gentle massage of my feet and legs and the moved to my back.

The oils used felt wonderful and soothing as my therapist used them to massage my body from head to foot using traditional techniques to release muscular tension and strains.

I did have some pretty bad knots in my neck and shoulders. Well, I am a mother of two, so no surprises there, but the massage was very relaxing.

I also enjoyed the facial. It began with a cleanse. The whole experience was so amazing that I started to drift off, and lost track of what order products or techniques were applied. Afterwards my skin felt glorious.

This was my first ever visit to a spa and certainly won’t be the last.

I felt as good as new.
