This week we roadtest … a Matis facial

Having been smothered in sun creams on holiday for the past couple of weeks, my clogged-up complexion felt in need of a thorough cleanse.
Being a delicate little flower, I thought the Matis Delicate facial from the luxury French skincare range seemed tailor-made for me, being calming, soothing and super-hydrating.
And even better, the beauty salon I was trying on this occasion was one I haven't been to in many moons. So it was a lovely surprise popping into the salon at Gosforth Park's Marriott Hotel and witnessing its utter transformation.
A chic reception area, stylish black and grey floral wallpaper, giant mirror and fresh lilies at the desk all made it feel very glam.
Expert therapist Anneka soon got to work with all her lotions and potions, beginning the treatment with a massage of the chest and shoulder area.
The complexion was then double cleansed, toned and exfoliated with delicate peeling cream of enzyme-based natural fruit acids. More massage of the chest and face followed, in what is a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating facial, before an eye mask was applied containing black and green tea to reduce dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.
A delicate mask was applied all over the face to reduce any redness and decongest skin and both calm and soothe.
This was removed and eye contour balm applied. Absolute soothing serum followed before Anneka finished off the treatment with a layer of delicate day and night cream, containing wheatgerm oil to nourish and canola oil to soften.
Skin felt super-soft and hydrated at the end of the hour-long treatment, and I felt like I'd had a thorough power clean.
One-hour Matis Delicate facial, £50.
