Dear Caroline

Beauty and grooming tips from senior Mac makeup artist Sunderland-born Caroline Donnelly.
WELL, I haven’t much to write in the way of a work diary as I’ve been on holiday in Portugal to celebrate my sister’s blessing of her marriage to her lovely husband. This holiday was the best. The highlight, of course, was seeing my gorgeous sister dressed up and looking fabulous and being a witness to the vows they made to each other. Not a dry eye in sight.
Tomorrow I’m assisting a make up artist named Georgina Graham. I love working with her. She’s fab – fun, easy to talk to and hugely talented and I’ve worked with her for years through MAC. She is doing a short film for some designers called David David for London Fashion Week which is now just a week away.
The call sheets suggests natural, sun kissed make-up, but we have to be prepared for anything, and Georgina always has loads of ideas.
Q. I have just had a baby and am up every couple of hours so look and feel exhausted. Is there anything quick I can do to make me look less tired? Red eyes etc?
A. Congratulations. Here are a few tips that should only take minutes in the morning as I realise time is short and enthusiasm is probably low. As the skin around the eyes can be quite red as well as in the eyes, I would suggest taking just a couple of moments to neutralise the skin tone in this area. The skin can be sometimes a little dehydrated as baby takes a lot of the mum’s nutrients. Start by applying MAC Moisturelush Eye Cream. This cream is lushly hydrating and rich with radiant optical effects helping to improve not only the texture of the skin, but the appearance. Whilst visibly lifting, reducing late night/early morning puffiness and firming, it will also help to rejuvenate and refresh the skin.
To disguise dark circles caused by lack of sleep and unusual sleeping patterns go for Select Moisture Cover Concealer for light to medium coverage, or Select Finish Concealer for maximum coverage.
Tired Skin – For extra hydration – Allow time into your busy life to drink plenty of water. This is vital to the condition of your skin. If your skin is feeling tight and dehydrated, try the MAC Moisturelush for the face.
If the colour of your skin has turned a little grey or tired looking and needs a bit of a pep up, (or a lot of a pep up). try applying either MAC Strobe Liquid or Strobe Cream.
Finally, the simplest thing to finish off this look is to add a touch of blusher to the cheeks for that healthy look, then curl the lashes and apply lashings of mascara for a wider eyed look. MAC Pro Lash is the ultimate for quick build in only one or two coats.
