Pop icon Lulu was in the region this week to promote her beauty range. LIZ LAMB caught up with her to find out her secret to looking good in her 60s

WITH her trim figure and luminous skin, Lulu could easily pass for a woman a decade younger.
At 62, she boasts an enviable size eight figure and a complexion that requires no foundation. There is a wrinkle or two, of course, but having met her in the flesh, I can report that for a woman in her 60s she really does look fantastic.
I caught up with the singing star when she visited Fenwick, in Northumberland Street, Newcastle, to promote her beauty range, Time Bomb, a capsule skincare collection to combat the problems of maturing skin.
Beauty addict Lulu developed the range after she was constantly asked what her secret was to looking good.
She says: “Journalists are always asking what is your secret. It was a compliment but very frustrating as I just wanted to talk about my music, not how I looked.
“I was always buying the best beauty products, if anything was written about a product, I would have to buy it and try it out. People would say they had never seen so many lotions and potions. I would buy expensive and cheap products and mix them together and use them so they benefited me and my skin.
“I have taken care of myself. I have worked with the best make-up artists, the best hairdressers, best stylists and I was always asking questions. When I had spots when I was younger, I would go to people who could help me, ask questions, find out about the skin and how it worked.
“When I was in my 40s and age started to show, I started looking into how to delay the aging process and help myself. I bought every product on the market and learned more about mature skin.
“I complained I couldn’t find what I wanted, so someone said why don’t you bring out your own beauty line. I got in touch with a chemist and we developed formulas and we launched the beauty range.”
