Eshott Hall to host tales from the riverbank

THE Cambridge Touring Theatre will make its North East debut in the summer ... and they’re bringing popular tales from the riverbank with them.

Eshott Hall in Northumberland will play host to the popular company, who are touring for the ninth consecutive year and will bring Wind in the Willows to life on stage.

Known for performing fun family theatre at some of the country’s most picturesque spots, audiences should prepare for a lot of singing; an abundance of dancing; to have their sandwiches swiped from right under their noses; and to be given an impromptu showering with water.

Louise Ball, house manager at Eshott Hall, said: “We are delighted that we are to welcome the Cambridge Touring Theatre to Eshott Hall, and I know that my children will absolutely love it.

“This production has been especially written for the family audience; lots of jokes, fun for all, audience participation and songs and dances.”

During their August stay, the company will also run a drama workshop aimed at five to 11-year-olds before the performance.

The session lasts 45 minutes and explores the story of Wind in the Willows, taking the youngsters through some adventures and introducing them to the characters.

Cambridge Touring Theatre is a group of performers, headed up by Rosie Humphreys who moved to Cambridge after working for the English National Opera in London.

She said: “We have a very strong family feel to the company,” she says. “All performers are chosen because they enjoy working with families.”

Wind in the Willows will be performed at Eshott Hall, near Morpeth, Northumberland, on August 21 at 3pm. The pre-show workshop starts at 1.30pm. For tickets, call 01670 787454 or visit www.cambridgetouringtheatre.co.uk
