Review: The Ginge, the Geordie and the Geek, Live Theatre
Jul 28 2010 by Sam Wonfor, The Journal
FOLLOWING a successful run at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe, the trio who are accurately described in the title of the show were previewing their new, north of the border sketch show at Live Theatre at the weekend.
Having not experienced their likeable charms before the gig, I have no basis for comparison with last year’s offering.
However, I would be happy to predict that they’ll get favourably talked about up there next month.
The three boys rattled through a flurry of sketches to a nostalgia- soaked 80s soundtrack.
Some were very funny. Some were amusing. Some were not. Not a bad score really.
My particular favourites were the recurring scarecrow/crow love story; the crazy lollypop man and his green man mate; mister fix-it superhero, Polish Man, the encore pilot sketch and the very nifty films which bookended proceedings.
While I wasn’t convinced by the second coming premise of the show and, for me, some of the on-stage doings missed the mark by quite a bit, there were more than a few shining glimmers of very clever, very funny material which should be honed, honed and honed some more.
The Edinburgh previews continue at Live Theatre tonight with Ashington’s Kai Humphries and one-man joke machine Gary Delaney taking to the stage.
