What happened to Scott and David

THEY have to be two of the most demanding roles in a North East theatre this year.

Who was going to land the daunting task of playing on stage Terry Collier and Bob Ferris, young heroes of hit TV series The Likely Lads?

Now we have the answer. Terry (James Bolam in the famous series) is to be played by Northumbrian actor Scott Frazer while Tynesider David Nellist has landed the part of aspirational Bob (Rodney Bewes on TV).

Both are vastly experienced, with a host of theatre and TV appearances to their names. Scott played Cal in Byker Grove and has also appeared in plays in Newcastle, at the National Theatre and in London’s West End. David played the lead role in the Gala Theatre’s production The Far Corner in 2006 and has recently been appearing in a hit stage version of Nicholas Nickleby.

Rehearsals will begin later this month for the Gala Theatre’s version of The Likely Lads, adapted for the stage by the writers of the original TV series, Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement, and directed by Gala boss Simon Stallworthy.

Newcastle actress Susie Burton will play Thelma, Bob’s fiancée, while the versatile Donald McBride will play four parts.

The Likely Lads is at the Gala Theatre from June 11-21.
