ADAM Ant will standing and delivering a gig at the 02 Academy Newcastle next month.
The glamorous eighties icon will be bringing The Good, The Mad and the Lovely Posse with him for the concert, which if anything like his last visit to the venue, will be well worth the price of a ticket.
Ever since his Top of the Pops debut via the blistering performance of Dog Eat Dog in 1980, Adam Ant – birth name Stuart Leslie Goddard – has commanded attention.
Whether it was his platinum-selling albums, flamboyant and dramatic styling, budget-busting videos or publicly played out battles with mental illness, the headlines have kept coming in the 32 years since.
Millions still hold the classic albums Kings of the Wild Frontier, Prince Charming and Friend or Foe dear to their back-combed-hair hearts... and were thrilled when their idol made a return to the stage which was all about the music.
The awarding of the Q Music Icon Award in 2008, seemed to offer an opportunity for Adam to rekindle his creative flame... something which he says had been dampened through years of medication.
The Good, the Mad and the Lovely Posse, have played to thousands of people since they launched themselves quietly via a series of low key gigs in London back in 2010.
Now, after a recent and very successful tour of Australia, the self-styled “BlueBlack Hussar” is back on the UK roads to bring his distinctive sounds and nostalgia-infused back catalogue to the masses once more.
From my point of view, the only thing left to decide is whether to go for the Kings of the Wild Frontier white nose stripe or the red-cheek tramlines a la Prince Charming.
