Elaine Binney and The Jazz Rascals announce exciting line-up

Elaine Binney and The Jazz Rascals

INNOVATIVE jazz violinist Elaine Binney has an exciting line-up for her band's gig at Newcastle’s Hoochie Coochie.

Elaine and her band The Jazz Rascals are performing tomorrow with vocalist Eliza Lawson and pianist Steve Brown.

The gig at the jazz, soul and funk venue also brings a new collaboration with street dancers SANA Cru.

Elaine says: “The core is still violin, upright bass and drums but we have a new format: we’re inviting different guest singers and instrumentalists to join us at each gig to make each performance fresh and interesting for the audience. No two gigs are the same!”

She adds: “For this gig, we’ve taken advantage of the club’s aim to broaden the audience in jazz by expanding what we think jazz is. We will perform music in its purest and most free creative form, with no restrictions.

“And we’ve created a fusion of cultures by working with stunning local street dance team SANA Cru.”

Also performing on the night as part of the band will be funk bassist OJ, Djembe player Martin Hylton, acoustic guitarist Richard Gilroy, Colm Scott Baird on electric guitar and tenor saxophone players’ Graham Robinson and Andy Strong.

The Jazz Rascals are performing tomorrow at Hoochie Coochie, Pilgrim Street, Newcastle, at 8pm. Entrance is free. Visit www.elaine.binney.co.uk  for more information.
