Trio to do a gig for centenary

A TRIO of up and coming rock bands from Gateshead College are joining forces for a special Rocking Around a Hundred gig for charity this week.

Wishful Thinking, Red Sky Falling, and The Last Conversation are donating their considerable performing talents for free in a rock extravaganza at the Tyneside Irish Centre on Friday.

The gig has been organised to raise funds for the Workers’ Educational Association – WEA – which is celebrating its centenary as a voluntary adult education movement in the North East.

The WEA provides adult learning in many of the North East’s most disadvantaged areas for people who have gained least from school in the past. WEA staff also work with the Army at Catterick Garrison to boost young soldiers’ education, often just before they leave for Afghanistan.

The bands have been supported by Gateshead College where the band members are students.

Formed in 2005, Wishful Thinking is a classic rock covers band playing songs from the 60s to the present day. You’re as likely to hear a tribute to The Animals as you are Kings of Leon during their eclectic set.
