THE North East’s growing reputation as a centre of musical excellence is boosted further by the achievements of a talented bunch of youngsters.
No fewer than 11 of the young musicians who attend the Weekend School at The Sage Gateshead have won places at music colleges and universities across the country.
At the Weekend School, talented youngsters gain expert tuition in an atmosphere steeped in music. Evidently it equips them brilliantly for higher education.
In addition to fine instrumental tuition and performing opportunities, the Weekend School has also run specific classes for university and music college preparation.
Philip Sanderson, who coaches students in preparation for university, said: “All of the students have worked very hard, with a lot of fun along the way, and have gained well-deserved places, with the majority being the students’ first choice institution.
“The university preparation programme allows work to be done that complements both A-level and instrumental work, stretching the students in an individual and tailor-made way.”
Joan-Albert Serra, head of vocal and instrumental learning at The Sage Gateshead, said: “The Weekend School has produced an opportunity for young, talented and committed musicians to have the top quality training and experiences needed to pursue a career in music.
“This has enabled them to access the best music colleges and universities in the country. We are very proud of all 11 students and wish them all the luck in their musical futures.”
