A Foo night to remember

Foo Fighters at Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle

DARKNESS falls on the crowd and hundreds of mobile phones glow like flickering lighter flames of the digital age.

A sea of people surged forward with a deafening roar as the Foo Fighters took to the stage last night.

They played a mixture of old and new songs including their latest single Pretender and classics such as Break Out and Learn To Fly.

Singer and guitarist Dave Grohl was bursting with energy as he told the crowd this gig would be longer and louder than they could ever want.

He promised something better than any festival performance and the band certainly delivered.

The atmosphere was electrifying as drummer Taylor Hawkins beat out a heart-stopping solo that left the crowd in awe. And none of the fans anticipated the beautiful acoustic set performed on a platform lowered from the ceiling.

Bathed in red light the band sang Skin and Bones and There Goes My Hero accompanied by a piano and violin. The Foo Fighters gave a passionate and thrilling performance that captured the entire crowd and had them singing and head banging along.

The Foo Fighters have a worldwide following and they showed why last night.

Although they have been around for years the band still produce exciting music that is evolving all the time.

Their new album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace was released in September.

Dave Grohl said that with their latest offering the band were definitely moving in a few new directions.

Foo Fighters headlined at several festivals this summer including Live Earth and V, but their performance last night exceeded any hype that had surrounded their live act.

The passion that they feel for their music and their fans was plain to see and hear.

It was easy to see why this awesome force in rock music has won countless awards.

It was certainly an unforgettable night.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November gunpowder, treason and rock!
