Offer: Two-for-one tickets for Self Made at Tyneside Cinema

A TWO-FOR-ONE ticket offer this weekend marks the premiere of a locally-made film that is part-documentary and part-psychological experiment.

Self Made – the brainchild of conceptual artist Gillian Wearing – opens at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle today with a special screening taking place on Sunday afternoon. The cinema is offering two tickets for the price of one for Sunday’s event, which will include a Q&A with the director herself.

Wearing makes her directorial debut with the film, which was made in the North East with investment from Northern Film & Media.

A highly original work, it features a the general public and is simultaneously a documentary, social experiment and a performance project. The participants, all non-actors, worked with acting coach Sam Rumbelow and were filmed taking part in a psychological experiment to explore what they discover about themselves when acting out roles.

The result promises to be a fascinating insight into individuality as they’re shown learning relaxation techniques and improvisation skills to help them face up to their fears and issues from the past.

Self Made, a co-production involving Fly Film and Newcastle’s Third Films, is a 15 certificate and will show on the fourth floor Electra screen at the Pilgrim Street cinema.

Tickets cost £8 (£6.95 concessions) and are available from the box office on 0845 217 9909 or at www.tynesidecinema.co.uk

The two-for-one offer applies only to Sunday’s event – which runs from 3pm to 5pm and includes a free glass of wine on arrival – and is not available online. Nor can it be used in conjunction with any other cinema ticket deal.

To take advantage of it, quote ‘Self Made Ticket Offer’ when calling the box office.
