OPERA on a big screen is proving a big hit with devotees of the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle.
This autumn, the venue continues its hugely successful screenings of live satellite broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, with their 2011-12 season.
After two sell-out seasons in 2009 and 2010, the Tyneside will be bringing these live satellite screenings from the Met back in October for their 2010-11 season.
It will start with the Met premiere of Anna Bolena, the tragic tale of the ill-fated queen driven mad by her unfaithful king.
The season also includes Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Wagner’s Siegfried and Verdi’s La Traviata.
Jonny Tull, the Tyneside Cinema’s programme manager, said: “These live satellite performance have proved so popular that we just had to get them back for another season. This is the only chance many people in the North East will get to see the Metropolitan Opera performances and we think the Tyneside Cinema is the next best place to see them.”
