ARCHIVES in the region have been tapped into by local musicians for a unique project which will see rather high-tech results.

Half Memory is an unique audio-visual performance inspired by museum and archive collections which will take place live in April at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle where tickets are already on sale.

It’s the result of an idea by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and collaboration involving Tusk Music and Pixel Palace - the cinema’s digital arts programme, and it features North East musicians Warm Digits and Richard Dawson, who explored local collections of records and photographs.

Warm Digits have created a film and soundtrack inspired by line drawings and plans from a 1970s civic engineering project while Dawson has taken his inspiration for a new album from photographs, letters, newspaper cuttings.

Ahead of the live show, tracks from the album – which has not yet been named – will be broadcast for the first time between January 26 and February 1 on basic.fm which is Pixel Palace’s online radio project.

An extended programme of recordings will be broadcast in March before the tracks are performed live at the special performance at the cinema at 7pm on April 28, marking the release of both Dawson’s CD and Warm Digits’ DVD.
