Green glamour

Environmental campaigner and Journal blogger Anna Heywood takes to the green carpet this week at the Observer Ethical Awards in London. Francesca Craggs gives her an environmentally-friendly makeover.

When it comes to hair and makeup, Anna admits to a conservative approach.

“I always go for the same boring look – a bit of eye-liner and foundation. I never wear lipstick. I would love to glam it up for the awards and try some of this season’s vibrant colours,” she said.

And what better place to send Anna for her makeover than Savannah Lifestyle Salon & Spa in Newcastle? Newcastle’s only Aveda Concept salon, Savannah uses only Aveda products made from natural ingredients.

Anna’s hair was styled in a 1950s-inspired up-do to complement her vintage-style dress. Stylist Martin Slavin worked with Anna’s natural waves and finished the look with Aveda Air Control hair spray and Aveda Brilliance shine spray.

Make-up artist Heather Johnson used Aveda beauty products to give Anna a glamorous evening look.

Anna said: “The look is so different from what I usually go for, but I love it. I never wear my hair up, but it really complements the shape of the dress. Heather gave me some great makeup tips, so I’m definitely going to be more experimental in the future.”

Watch out, Mr Darcy.
