Performing Artist of the Year Award: The Futureheads

This award recognises an individual performer who has stood out during 2008. We welcomed nominations for actors, dancers, musicians, singers and comedians.

WINNER: THE FUTUREHEADS

IT would be fair to say that 2008 was a busy year for The Futureheads. The Sunderland-born band (Jaff, Ross Millard, Barry Hyde and David Hyde) set up their own record label Nul Records, released their third album under their own steam and enjoyed top 20 success in both the UK album and singles chart.

The album, This is Not The World “exceeded all expectations” according to band bassist, Jaff, with the lead single Beginning of the Twist becoming their best-selling single to date – even topping their landmark release, Hounds of Love in 2004.

The band also toured the world, dropping in on “countless” festivals, and rounded the year and the tour off with a Christmas gig at The Sage Gateshead in December.

The rest of 2009 looks set to be a creative one with a new album on the go and a record label to run.
