The Journal Champion of Champions tournament will feature what is now ranked as the longest hole in our circulation area. We asked our readers last week if Matfen Hall's new 578-yard monster was as long as it gets. We are grateful to Paul Corney, the North Correspondent of Golf North East, for telling us his club, De Vere Slaley Hall, has a 594-yard 10th on the Priestman Course. This is where our tournament, sponsorevd by TaylorMade adidas Golf, will be played on September 9. Corney also mentions Linden Hall's 584-yard third and Brancepeth Castle's 583-yard sixth. Mary Lamb, a member at Whitley Bay, tells us their 12th also out-monsters Matfen at 582 yards. Bay's secretary-manager, Peter Simpson, emailed us to add: "In my opinion, our 12th is one of the best playing par fives in the area." Read
